History

We are a fourth-generation family business and are immensely proud of our heritage, values and business ethics. These have stood us in good stead over the years and have been recognised and rewarded by strong and loyal customer relationships.

  • 1930's

The origins of Innovate Foods can be traced back to the 1930's when the current managing director Tony Dumbreck's grandfather started growing mushrooms in Scotland. The philosophy of using top quality ingredients is underpinned by over 70 years of experience in mushroom growing.

  • 1970's

Following a period of innovation and development, our mushroom growing business had national recognition as being the leading grower in the sector; putting us centre stage at prestigious events on the calendar such as the iconic Royal Highland Show (see pic of our stand at the show).

  • 1980's

The decade of ‘Yuppies’, Blockbuster Movies and the birth of the Breaded Mushroom! The 1980’s was a pivotal decade for the family firm. Current managing director Tony Dumbreck spotted a gap in the market whereby he could add significant value to the product and Golden Crumb was born! The rest as they say is history!

  • 1990's

The Golden Crumb crispy breaded mushroom becomes the nation’s category leader in foodservice – a position held continuously for a quarter of a century.

The company achieves an A pass in the British Retail Consortium Global technical standard – a standard it too has held continuously for over a quarter of a century.

  • 2000's

The noughties was the decade of development for the business in both products and production. The company was committed to staying ahead of the curve in foodservice evolution and had successfully brought to market a number of new products to complement its core range – positing the business as category leaders in the frozen coated starters and appetizers space.

  • 2006

In 2006 the company decided to take the bold step of embarking on a rebranding process. Whilst the Golden Crumb brand had served the company fantastically well for nearly a decade it was felt that a new, stronger brand identity was needed to better communicate the company’s wider offering – particularly in respect of new product development for the leading operators.

The Innovate Foods brand was born but the iconic Golden Crumb brand was not to be lost entirely – it was and still is to this day a category brand of the company.

  • 2014

    25 Years in the Making

In 2014 Innovate Foods celebrated 25 years in business – a milestone that Tony, the Dumbreck family and the whole Innovate family were immensely proud of.

Not only had the business weathered recessions and downturns, the business has grown tremendously over the last quarter of a century – becoming the first-choice supplier for a number of the world’s leading foodservice brands.

Innovate Foods is very much looking forward to the next 25 years!

  • 2017

Today the company produces in excess of 14 million portions annually and exports to Europe, Japan, Korea, the Gulf States and throughout the rest of the world.

There are a number of exciting plans and developments for the business, including several new products coming to market and a factory development – all of which will ensure Innovate Foods plays its part in the global food manufacturing sector for many years to come!
